So they’ve flooded the market with useless diets, powders, fad programs, supplements and other junk that does NOTHING but give you false hope that maybe, just maybe, this will be the one thing that works to help you achieve your goals.
There’s also a bunch of 6 and 12 week cookie cutter programs online…that just set people up for failure, and often people just regain all the fat they’ve lost after the 6-8 week period is up anyway because they can’t sustain what they were doing.
These 6 and 12 week programs are NOT long term solutions for people who want to lose the fat AND keep it off long term!
And when any of the above solutions don’t work, you feel like MORE of a failure, become MORE desperate, and buy something else.
And when that doesn’t work, your self-esteem takes another hit, and you buy something else.
And so on… and so on…

8 Common fat loss protocols… & Why They Don’t Work For You
Yes, this is one of the biggest nutrition fads out there! It does not matter how healthy or how “clean” the foods you’re eating are. If you’re not creating a calorie deficit, you won’t lose any fat whatsoever!
Therefore, it’s not just about eating healthy foods. You need to be creating a calorie deficit, otherwise you’re not going to lose any fat…even if you’re eating the healthiest foods on the planet!
Doing lots of cardio instead of weights
We have two goals when trying to lose fat:
- Lose body fat.
- Maintain muscle mass.
If you’re just doing a ton of cardio, you’ll lose a ton of muscle mass!
This won’t give you the look you’re after…& more muscle mass lost means a slower metabolic rate!
That means it’s going to be even harder to continue losing fat.
Weight training MUST be the foundation of your routine!
Having short rest periods when lifting weights
When it comes to weight training…it is critical you are having sufficient rest periods…so that you can use maximal loads for each and every set.
I see so many people focus on short rest periods, only to shoot themselves in the foot because short rest periods mean they won’t perform as well during their sets since the muscles aren’t sufficiently recovered before each set.
As a result, this means they’re going to be more likely to lose muscle mass within a fat loss phase.
Make sure you’re giving yourself plenty of time between sets.
Lots of high reps and low weight
This is one sure-fire way to lose a lot of muscle mass. As mentioned above, we have two goals within the fat loss phase.
If you start using lots of light weights and performing lots of high reps, it makes it much more difficult to adequately stimulate your muscles for growth.
Sure, you get a good “pump”, but this doesn’t actually do much for your muscles.
Instead, you need to be using heavy enough weights with the right rep range in order to maintain/grow as much muscle as possible.
Then, you manipulate your calories and cardio to create the calorie deficit needed for fat loss.
I see so many guys waste all their money on supplements that have no evidence to support their usage and will NOT allow you to lose body fat FASTER.
It’s so important to realize that it’s the calorie deficit that gets you RESULTS. It has nothing to do with any ingredients in a fat burner pill!
To put this into context. Let’s look at a person using a fat burner who is not in a calorie deficit vs someone in a calorie deficit but not taking a fat burner.
The person in a calorie deficit but not taking a fat burner will lose considerably more fat.
The person taking a fat burner but is not in a calorie deficit will not lose an ounce of fat whatsoever!
It’s as simple as that.
Low carb/low calorie approach
This is probably the worst approach I see people implement when they’re trying to lose body fat.
It’s absolutely critical that your calorie intake doesn’t get too low… otherwise you’ll end up losing a ton of muscle.
The same is true with cutting out carbs too low… Do so, and your performance in the gym and overall energy levels will suffer.
This is obviously not going to give you the look you’re after (we don’t want “skinny-fat”!).
The next reason is “ADHERENCE”.
You see, your ability to be consistent with your diet is critical for your long-term success.
Having higher calories and sufficient carbs simply makes it easier to stick to the diet over the long-term, and as a result you’ll get better results.
As opposed to being too aggressive with your calories and yo-yo dieting.
The next reason is that it’s important to realize you’ll meet multiple fat loss plateaus throughout your journey within the fat loss phase.
By starting the diet on more calories, it gives you more room to make changes from and cut calories when you plateau.
If you start the diet out on too few calories… you’re essentially backing yourself into a corner with no room to maneuver as your calories are already too low to make cuts from.
Workout routines not backed by science
If you’re like most guys, you’re likely following a bodybuilding routine you have found online or from a magazine.
You’re also most likely training body parts just once per week and blasting them with a ton of volume when you do so.
You see, a lot of these types of programs are typically used by “drug assisted trainees”.
As such, these guys can get away with sub-optimal training programs because they are taking drugs.
However, while you can get results using a program like this…these programs are not optimal for a natural trainee.
Ideally, you want to be training each of your muscles at least twice per week for best results as a natural trainee.
If you’ve never done this before, then you’ll likely experience a significant boost in your strength and results.
This one little change will make it so much easier to maintain/or continue gaining strength within the fat loss phase.
Finally, most people do way too many sets and “junk volume” in their workout which stunts their progress.
There’s an optimal number of sets you should be performing per body part for each workout. Perform below this optimal number and you won’t progress as fast as you could be. Perform above this amount, and you’ll be doing more harm than good. So many guys get this wrong and it’s hampering your progress!
Using a training program that isn’t tailored for an intermediate or advanced trainee
You see, this is one of the biggest mistakes I see guys making. They’re using training routines that do not cater for their training experience.
Typically, I see a lot of intermediate and advanced guys using programs that are suitable for beginners. This means their progress is being halted and they won’t maximize their results, or achieve their full potential.
While you can see “some” results using a beginner program, your results will be slower and you certainly will not achieve the look you’re after. You’re more advanced than a Beginner, therefore your training needs to be tailored to cater for this.
Failure to do this, and you’ll never achieve that RIPPED and SHREDDED look you crave!
